Quality: 9
(I should point out I have the 1616M PCI) This is a very nice sound card. The 1616 is good as it is, with the 1616M you also get excellent converters. I would recommend the M version as it's not that much more expensive, and has much better second-hand value. I've had no problems quality-wise, only exception is the built-in soft-limiter which seems to not be quite able to limit peaks properly. Any time I have it switched on I get a slightly distorted sounds as the limiter kicks in, as if it can't quite tame the peaks. Other than that quality is outstanding for this price range. Reliability: 6 I've had some reliability problems on Windows Vista, and I know I'm not the only one. On XP it seems to work fine, but the Vista drivers have problems. It took a lot of time for EMU to release the drivers, and their support/information has been quite poor. Even though the full Vista drivers have been released now, the EMU FX VST still does not work on Vista, and there is no information from EMU when/if this will be fixed! It's a shame for such a nice card to be let down by frankly rubbish support. If you're still on XP it's not a problem though. Overall Rating: 8 I've had this card for over a year now, and aside from the Vista problems it's an excellent card. The sound quality is excellent, and the on-board effects are pretty decent I have to say. It also has very nice routing options. If it were not for the Vista problems and the poor support from EMU I would give it top marks. |
