I'm thinking about buying these. Any info would help. I'm planning on using them for toms and floor tom. are the small condensers worth it? or should i just get the 4 piece? thank, dusty

Quality: 7
These mics are fairly well built. Experience with other PG range mics tells me that the grills are very easy to dent, although I've never dented these. Sound is quite good, I think the bass drum mic works the best followed by toms and then condensers. I would not use the tom mics on a snare, an SM57 is cheap and sounds much snappier. The overheads are reasonable but I suspect are the first thing to be upgraded for most users (I am about to do this).

Reliability: 10
No problems whatsover. Plug them in, record.

Overall Rating: 8
I would definately record this package to someone on a budget. I have been able to get very good results. The only thing I would recommend is if you can afford it, buy the 4 piece set and spend a bit more on overheads. IMO, overheads shape the sound of the kit more than close mics anyway and after some time you will probably want to replace the PG81s.
