Quality - current version: 6.75 and sinking - for the newer models with the 6072 tube, which I believe is now all Chinese made/assembled.
The mic is still nice sounding but nothing like the mic it is supposed to be like. It is pronounced in the mids and uses a circuit that is too close for comfort to the stock Alctron made Nady 1050, except I believe with a different transformer. The tonality is somewhat of a hybrid, IMO.
Quality - old version: 8.5 - If you had a low serial number version like me, with a CE701 tube - Peluso's *re-branded* tube with implies it is an AC701 tube, which is one of the magical mic tubes (not in the VF14 league - but moving up) - you are one of the lucky ones.
This is when Peluso was trying to make his mark. The sonic signature is very different than the current 22 47s, flatter mids, more high extension (but not bright), more like the mic it is trying to be.
In all, I think the older 22 47s come a lot closer to hitting the mark, the newer ones hit a different target.
Reliability: 9
No problems.
Overall Rating: 6.75 - 8.5
Given the Plethora of mic choices today, I would not buy today's version at it's price point. Conversely, I would buy the older version again and have mixed feelings about selling mine to help fund my purchase of Beesneez mics.
Don't get me wrong, I have NO reservations or remorse about my decision to purchase a
BeesNeez Arabella - simply it is in a different league: it has
much more mojo and magic.
However, the older 22 47 mics will are no longer made.......and mine happened to be nicely Neumann-ish and still be neutral enough to be a very good all around mic.
