Wow, nobody's talking about this mic? This is a far superior mic on snare to an SM57. More clarity, just a little less compression, and best/most important, it's much more directional. So you can sculp your snare sound and don't have to play EQ games to get the high hat outta there. Great looking metal, no plastic mic with a nice clip and canvass bag. These days, I only use the SM57 for my Leslie cabinet or some vintagy guitar cab or snare effect. The i5 is just more modern and better. It just doesn't have that one sound.

Quality: 10
It's built like a tank, it sounds great and it does the job 100%

Reliability: 10
Never a single problem with any Audix product.

Overall Rating: 10
This is definitely an "improved" SM57. It lacks the nasal quality in the upper mids that most shure dynamics has and sounds better on most sources than the fabeled 57.

Honestly, of the handful of times that I've used this mic on a snare, I was unimpressed. It lacked the attack that the SM57 has. The sound is better, yes, but there's less crack and snap to my ears.

I really dig it on guitar cabs, though!
