So far the AKG Perception 220 performs lovely! This is the microphone we chose to use for Rap, Hip Hop and R&B vocals. This is our first mic and so far its wonderful. Wonderful quality, it can hear a pin drop across the room, also comes with a nice sturdy case and spider shock mount well worth the price and a good newbie mic! Also the mic come with a switch that can take the extra "boom" and bass out of your voice if need be. Performs great for vocals male and female alike! I reccommend it as a beginner mic!

This was my first condenser mic I've ever bought. I have an SM58 that I've mainly recorded with before. Wow...what a difference in sensitivity. I don't need to be right on the mic now. I can sit back a foot and relax. This thing picks up everything. Before my CPU was not much of an issue - now it is - I'll have to set something up to knock down the fan noise. I built a quick box with regular foam in it to deaden the room ambiance when I place the mic in it and that has helped as well.

Overall, I really like this mic. I picked it up for $197 at Steve's Music in Ottawa.
