Default Where.. do... I... start?

The thread title is a little misleading... let me get you to where I'm at...

I have a PC, with Reaper installed and licenced. I have a crack team of rack mounted equipment to call a "chain", made mostly of spare transistors and reused electrical tape from old appliances. I have a pair of powered, untorn speakers which do receive playback. I have a bevy of donated instruments, which at this point, I am capable of recording onto my hard drive. Sounds magical so far, I know. Here's the issue:
I have a drum track (1 stereo track) recorded already. When I attempt to record my bass track, it records both the played bass AND the drum playback. I'm pretty sure all I need to do is designate inputs/outputs. And I'm pretty sure that this is a function of my soundcard (SB Audigy 2... only the best!!!). But I have NO clue how to do this or if it can even be done with this card.
Anyone? Anyone? Who wants some of this one?

it could be that all sound system-wide is being passed to your recording. In the Control Panel/Sound dialog, you might see something like "Stereo Mix" under the recording tab.

Exactly...just make sure you do not have "what you hear" selected. Instead, under the "record" column of which garww mentioned, make sure you have selected either "microphone" or "line-in," depending on which of those you are using to get your bass guitar to your DAW software. After ensuring that is done, your recording software should only record what passes either through your "line-in" (light blue) input or "mic" (pink) input located on your soundcard.

Cheers,

I also have the audigy 2 and it sounds like you do have the "what you hear " selected, do you have the creative mediasource program installed? this has the mixer in the software where you would designate what line is being recorded. I.e line in/mic in aux "what you hear" microphone 2 etc.

also make sure your daw software is set accordingly, if youve recorded track one then make sure you mute track 1 or solo the track that your recording, this can help also, but first and foremost make sure your using the correct line to record.
