Vista Sucks Through RAM!

My dad brought his brand new laptop buy today. Of course, it had Vista. He asked if 2GB of RAM was a lot. I said that 2GB is a ton for anyone not doing hardcore workstation type of work (video editing, hardcore graphics design, r audio recording).

He was playing a tune on Windows Media Player and he had one window open in Internet Explorer.

I was curious how much RAM he was using. It turned out to be 1GB! Holy hell! That's a TON! I'm using XP with 20 windows open in Maxthon (similar to IE), 2 instances of Open Office, Dreamweaver, and Outlook open and I'm only using 357MB of RAM.

It's a good thing RAM is cheap these days!

Yes, it's amazing how much RAM Vista eats up. You'd think it was doing something special for all of that. I haven't seen any evidence of anything special.

To me, Vista is like Special Olympics special.

Yes, I do apologize in advance to anyone offended by that, but the analogy is sound in my book.

It can do the same things, it just seems to be much more taxing on the given resources.
