Thanks a bunch guys. Think I'll try maximizing the RAM first (cheaper solution) and then maybe move on to a faster processor if it doesn't solve my problem. Like I mentioned before, I don't need a super computer. Already have another more powerful desktop (with bloody Vista). Just need one to run a sampler and VST plugins.

Will look into "freezing" more. Don't think I hit that chapter in KHR yet.

The latency thing is not so much a RAM issue in any way.

Doubling your ram is always a good idea. If your board can support more, that is a good idea, too. But check the spec.

As had been mentioned about disabling effects and VSTi, that is a whole nutter issue. Once you get a zero(ish) echo system wide, then you can zero in on what is interfering with the in/out.
