Possibly because it's cheap. Try moving the console around to see if you can modulate its bad behaviour.

You can also walk around with a transistor portable(tv-radio) to sniff out EM. You don't want any coiled loops in wiring. and just nudging orientation of components can sometimes do it - as GB says. To get audio on one TV channel, I have to raise my hand in a certain way. Radiation and interference are real. The usual culprit is 60-cycle hum, though - or noisy gear.

If you have a frequency analysis plugin for Audition you should be able to determine if it is 60hz and harmonic related. If so, a grounding problem/loop may be the culprit. If not it may be due to EMF and a combination of poor shielding on your mixer. If your board has headphone outs you can listen with and without the usb connected to your computer. If it hums only when the usb is connected it could be due to a ground potential difference between the computer and the board. Also try to wobble the usb connector on both ends to see if it changes the hum level. Could be poor contacts on the usb port on the mixer. |

How about all the other stuff we suggested? I don't think anybody said to try a plug-in.

jagcmos said to try a plugin but i also tried to plug my headphones directly into the mixing board without the usb attached and I can hear the hum. I tried to move it around but there was no difference. Even when all the channels were muted there was still hum and when I unmuted all the channels the humming became greater.

I almost never blame the equipment but it really sounds like it's busted. Any warranty on that sucker?
