Default Smartest Virus Ever

I got hammered by a virus yesterday. I have to say that the programming was so impressive, I had to at least respect the guy that wrote it for his creativity, even if he is a cockbag.

I noticed I had some porn thumbnails on my desktop. I thought, "That's interesting!".

So I immediately restarted in Safe Mode and ran Clamwin. Clamwin found a bunch of stuff. A restart brought it all back.

So I attempted to download the virus definitions. The connection was blocked by the virus.

I attempted to install an old copy of Norton. That worked, but again the virus definition update was blocked by the virus.

Google mostly worked but all links were hijacked and sent somewhere stupid. The links that went to Norton, AVG, Adaware, etc were all blocked entirely.

I formated my computer. Like a dumbass I had forgotten that I had a dual boot setup. After about an hour of installing crap after the format, the virus was back.

I intended up trashing both XP installations, formatting again, making sure Norton was up to date, and then installed everything else. So far so good.

Brandon

Sounds like one of the DNS (domain name server) redirection viruses that I have read about. None of the anti-virus scanners find them, because they're not really a virus.

Nasty stuff...

The one program that i use to remove viruses is Malwarebytes and it removes every viruse i have ever tried to get rid of and best of all its free.

Let me start off by saying that recording under linux is not for everyone. Initially it can be quite daunting but once you get into it a whole new world opens up.
Until about a year ago I used linux for everything except recording. Then I stumbled across this article and it changed my outlook. Apprehensive at first, I slowly started experimenting with different DAWs such as Ardour, Mixmagic, Slab, Ecasound and of course Audacity.
I then found 64Studio and JACK which I now use along with Ardour.
I do have to add that I still have a small Windows partition for when I need to use Guitar Rig as Ive not been able to figure out how to use it in linux yet.

What the fuck is wrong with people!? I mean, I know a lot of these steaming "cockbags" were probably picked on when they were little, but damn! To get your rocks off by sittin' around in your bedroom at your parents' house rocking some bloody-ass gums and gray, vampiric skin, writing the sickest, most spectacular lines of code to maliciously piss the rest of us off is just, well...MEAN ! Why not put their skills to something useful? What, revenge is sweeter!!!?????

Ok...I just had to get that off my chest.

I got a new "family" computer a couple weeks ago, and somehow, I got screwed over by something called "contraviro" or whatever. My six-year old likes to use the PC to go to "clubpenguin.com" to play little kiddie games and such, and he somehow accepted a pop-up allowing contraviro to be installed. This is before I had the chance to install anti-virus and anti-spyware software. I thought for sure that things would be ok for one day, until I had the chance to install the preventative software...but, NOOO! Bleeding-gums-alf-alpha had a different plan . He must have been really "creative" too. Somehow, he used his "contraviro" to take the reigns as the administrator of my PC. I can't install anything, because now, my computer states that "windows installer has been disabled, please contact your administrator." Then, thinking that I could at least go online and see if there's something that could be done, "contraviro" disabled my internet connection by eliminating the ability for my PC to recognize my network card. I couldn't reverse this by re-installing its drivers or anything!

I guess, it's no real big deal though since I was able to restore to factory settings and such, but just the notion that some steaming pile of shit spent his superior programming efforts on something as lame as creating a virus blows my mind. I'd love to walk in on one of these guys and catch 'em in the act (yeah...fat chance of that!) and ring his neck...the bastards.

Take a look at 64Studio. Its basically Ubuntu linux customized as a home studio.
Also, read this article, it's very interesting.

Thanks for the info.
I can't tell you how many hours I have spent tweaking XP to shut down all the unecessary background jobs, reducing graphics capability, etc.. and the fucking thing still likes to dropout randomly.

I'm sick and tired of having to get all the same devices so they play together. Yeah, I know about adat, but I would really like a way to aggregate my audio devices like Mac OSX.

How is 64studio on the cpu, is it efficient ?
