Default PC Upgrade - Delta 1010 snap crackle pop solved!

So, just thought I would post this here in case anyone else ever has this problem.

After a bit of a hiatus I decided to get back into making music. Upgraded my software, got some monitor speakers, built a recording desk got every thing situated and working. It's just a low budget home studio, but it's fun.

But the PC was just a bit weak. P4 2.4ghz with 80 hard drive. Maybe the hard drive was slow, but I would get 'pauses' every now and then when recording OR playing back. I figured why bother working on that when I could upgrade my pc too.

So I ordered a new mobo/cpu/hard drive. A decent AMD x2 3.0ghz machine and a speedy sata drive. Got it all put together and fired up some music and then...

SNAP CRACKLE and POP showed up to the party...

I researched the issue to no end. Tried everything people suggested. Moved the card to different slots, played with latency settings. None of it helped.

The solution was remarkably simple and cost 30$. I ordered a new pci-express graphics card, installed that, and 5 minutes and 2 reboots later problem was solved...

For whatever reason, the onboard graphics were the culprit...

All is fine now and I couldn't be happier

That was a defect on the mainboard. You could have gotten a warranty exchange if you had known what the culprit was. You are probably better of with a PCI graphics card. It won't matter much for recording but it can help in other areas.

That could very well be.

I did find some scraps of other info out there indicating that sometimes the on board graphics on MOBO's could cause these kinds of problems.

Interestingly enough, I couldn't get Ubunutu to load with that on board graphics card. I had seen some other messages about Ubuntu not working well with the onboard video either as well.

The little graphics card I got though seems to work well and it supports dual monitors, so it's pretty much a win win situation for me...

I'm actually looking to getting Ardour working on this machine at somepoint, just for kicks.
