That was a defect on the mainboard. You could have gotten a warranty exchange if you had known what the culprit was. You are probably better of with a PCI graphics card. It won't matter much for recording but it can help in other areas.

That could very well be. I did find some scraps of other info out there indicating that sometimes the on board graphics on MOBO's could cause these kinds of problems. Interestingly enough, I couldn't get Ubunutu to load with that on board graphics card. I had seen some other messages about Ubuntu not working well with the onboard video either as well. The little graphics card I got though seems to work well and it supports dual monitors, so it's pretty much a win win situation for me... I'm actually looking to getting Ardour working on this machine at somepoint, just for kicks.
