Default ok i have a question

Ok i have an Alesis iO|14 i bought a couple months ago cuz i was just playing around with recording and stuff.. and didnt want to spend a lot of money...so anyways...i just ordered a Firestudio and my alesis interface has adat in. So i was wondering can i hook my firestudio up to the alesis to add the additional 8 channels ? well untill i get more money to spend on a Digimax fs?

im not looking for really a professional recording studio..this is basically just to play around with stuff and do recording for my church and stuff.....if you wanna know i have a MacPro 2 2.6 ghz dual core processors 2 gig of ram and like 750 gb hard drive space.........which the mac pro is my personal computer....i was going to get a macbook for over there....anyways..will that work like i want it too? untill i get more equipment?

I'm curious why you purchased a second audio interface when you really needed an 8 channel preamp. I figure you CAN using the Firestudio in some kind of standalone mode and route the preamps to the ADAT outs and go straight into the Alesis IO14, but this is not the intended purpose of the unit. The Digimax is what you probably wanted the first time.

Oh. So you want to figure out a way to cram the Alesis inputs into the Firestudio? The only way to do this is with ADAT ins.

You could try running them in tandem. It can be a pain, but sometimes it works great.

ok i got it to work....through adat finally....i had to have both plugged in to the firewire because i had to access the firestudio control panel......but it works now..........and for another question..does anyone know if there was another 8 channel preamp i could get in place of a digimax ? for cheaper or would i be better off getting the digimax? thanks.....

I went with the M-Audio Octane, but I don't think it makes much difference. Looking back, I wish I would have went with the Digimax. I figure I'll have a summing box within the next year or two and so I'll going to need ADAT outputs of some kind. The Digimax has ins and outs. The Octane only has ins.

I'd recommend going with the Digimax and be done with it. Then again, if your rig works now, why spend more money on this when you could strengthen another link in your chain like studio monitoring, acoustics, or microphones?
