New Computer

Looking at purchasing a new computer for music only...looks like I will have to purchase a Dell with Vista 64 (it's all they offer)...I do have a copy of XP from an old build I had so maybe I can switch to it if I have to...the computer will only be used to dump tracks to from a stand alone workstation, so I won't need in's but def. need outs for my monitors (any advice?)...here are the specs:

Intel Core 2 Duo 3MB L2, 2.8 Ghz, 1066 FSB
4 Gigs of DDR2 SDRAM at 800 Mhz
320 gig 7200 RPM hard drive
add on firewire card
ATI Radeon HD 4350 512 MB video card


I can get this setup with a 19" monitor for under $680...I would just like your guys' opinions?


Also with Vista 64, I'm not sure if I can still use my Cubase LE, maybe I'll have to switch to Reaper? I'm not sure what is compatible with Vista 64. Any help is much appreciated.

I was able to build a Quad core setup (not the tip top Quad core, but certainly no slouch) for around $400 (no monitor) and I didn't have to deal with Vista one bit. This path is not for everyone but it certainly saved me money. You may consider it.

What audio interface are you using? You should check the chipset requirements before purchasing the Dell.

Other than that this isn't a bad setup.
