Default New Computer

Hi all,

Getting a new comp built in the next few weeks. The list below is where I'm at right now. Any suggestions to add or remove from this list? Also I'm still not sure whether I want Vista or XP Pro, 32 or 64 bit? I'm a steinberg user mostly and planning to upgrade from Cubase 4 to 5. Also use Ableton Live 7 atm. I left the cost in as well. This is a copy and paste from my quote sheet which includes all parts and labor.

Case - Antec Sonata
Power Supply - 750 Watt Ultra Lifetime Series Pro
Mobo - Gigabyte GA-MA780G-uD3H
CPU - AMD Phenom II 940 3.0GHz
Memory - 2GB DDR2 800
Memory - 2GB DDR2 800
Video Card - ATI Radeon HD 4350 (256MB)
Hard Drive OS - 320 GB System Drive 16 mb cache <------(should I upgrade this to a 500gig 32 mb cache. Will only cost me an additional $10.00)
Hard Drive Audio - 1.5 TB Music Drive 32mb cache
Optical Drive - Dual Layer CD/DVD Writer (SATA)
Windows Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit ??????????
KB & Mouse - Logitech PS/2 Internet Desktop
Sub Total $ 1,245.00
Tax $ 118.28
Total $ 1,363.28

Gabriel

Wow !! Looks pretty nice !! Everything but a SID chip. Do you have any 64bit apps ?? I usually prefer one drive for the OS and apps and another for work files. I'd rather stream data to a separate controller. The 1.5Tb is nice for storage.

I just cleaned out the dust(I get a lot of grit from the mountains) from my three fan xeon box yesterday. I would review cooling.

Hey Gar,

I have some either or, but no 64bit specific apps at this time. I almost went with the i7 940 but the price difference is so substantial and seeing how fast these CPUs and MOBOs get outdated (nearly at a yearly pace) it just made more sense for me to go the AMD route.

There has been some talk of the 64-bit OS not working very well with todays software. I'm just into Vista 32bit home so all the talk is new to me.

skip DDR 800 and go with 1066, I wish I did with mine.

I prefer the Antec P182 and Intel chips.

I don't see any processor cooling there either.
