Hey guys, I posted this question under technical issues but maybe this is the place for it. I am running cubase 5 on a dell pc and have just been given another dell pc. Ive heard fx teleport is a great way to link the 2. It seems less hassle than vst system link and means i dont need to buy another audio interface. Could someone explain how i go about using the 2nd pc, eg using it for effects, vsts etc? Thanks in advance |

hey Brandon, I've linked my pc's via ethernet and downloaded a trial version of fx teleport but thats as far as I've got. I've been looking further into it and it looks like there maybe a pretty significant latency issue too but I'll keep you posted. Part of me thinks that the hassle it's gonna take to get it all up and running for the sake of a bit of horsepower might not be worth it. I've managed so far with workarounds. I'll let ya know |

I was thinking about doing this when I ordered my new machine. In the interim, I used an old interface on my old computer, a new interface on my new computer, connected MIDI out on old computer to MIDI in on new computer. Connected audio out from old computer to audio in on new computer. It actually works! I can play the keyboard through the old machine, and get midi into my new one with low enough latency for me to play live. Here's the thing. I got this keyboard which won't work on a 64 bit OS. So, I use it through my old machine, through MIDIOX sending the data to my new machine. As it happens, the new machine is so damn powerful that I've been unable to trip it up (even running Vista!). So, my old machine is just there to run the couple of plugins that won't run on Vista64, the internet and stuff like Napster. The new one does everything else. At some point, I'll buy a new keyboard that works with Windows 7. But for now, this is working just fine, and I think Brandon is right. The new processors and masses of ram are reducing the need to run PC farms. I have a recent track that could not be run on my old dual core Pentium D (2.8Ghz) without freezing pretty much all the MIDI tracks, in order to give me enough power to keep my signal processors running to allow me to mix. On the new machine it runs at around 7% CPU without any track freezing at all. |

Cheers for the reply guys. I've decided for now to keep my studio as it is. The hassle of system link isn't worth it for now. This leaves me with a spare pc. Any ideas what I could use it for?

| I use mine as a sound module - much as RB did. And it can work as a file server.
