Default This is funny

...it won't be when I actually have time to piss around with it, but right now, I can't help but laugh.

So, a couple of weeks ago I had some major problems with my operating system that stopped my computer working properly... I sorted it out by formatting the hard drive, and re-installing everything. It's been great, even better than new, ever since.

At the time I told myself that I was going to clone my hard drive so that if that kind of thing happened again, the answer was to simply swap out the hard drive. It's been a while... I've been making sure everythign is to my liking before creating the clone. I thought it would take a really long time, and I didn't really feel like doing it more than once.

Today, I felt that I was at the point where I was happy with how everything was going. So, I dug out a hard drive, unplugged my computer, attached the drive, and set about formatting it. So far so good. I then ran True Image to create a clone of my system drive on this spare. Excellent. It had to reboot, and it successfully created the clone (I'd left the computer for about an hour to do this... I have no idea how long it actually took). When it was done, I turned the computer off, unplugged it, took the spare drive out, and rebooted.

Now all I get is the fan on full speed. Nothing else. The computer doesn't boot, doesn't show anything on my monitor (not even POST). Nothing. Absolutely nothing. I've checked all the cables, tried taking out all but the system drive (s... I've tried all system drives - 3 of them). Nothing works.

I guess its either the power supply or the motherboard... neither of which can be fixed by exchanging the hard drive.

I'm not in the mood for spending $80 on a power supply... certainly not $200+ on a motherboard. So, as I said, when I actually get to deal with this - tomorrow I guess, I'll be really pissed off. Right now, it's just amusing that my steps to finally back up my computer, broke my computer.

Well, seems like it might have been just a co-incidence, and the problem is bad ram. I bought some new ram a little while ago because a RAM test showed some errors on my original. I decided to put it all in together to see how 4Gb fairs... it turned out to be a great booster and I left all 4Gb in the machine. Well, looks like the old stuff finally went bad. I took it out, and now the machine boots.

try clearing CMOS. sometimes when you run hard drive cloning software it can flash the bios too. If you clear CMOS it may post again. you may have to re install everything on your hard drive but it should at least post. Unless the RAM is bad? in that case try one stick at a time.
If it isn't any of those then yes mayne CPU or MB. but before giving up, try seeing if it will try to boot if you unplug the HDD. Also did you change the jumpers on your drives? Well that shouldn't do this. I changed the oil in an old truck once after not changing it for a long time. It blew up right after! Shit happens Man!

there are no coincidences; your computer is clearly punishing you for subscribing to a biologically-based lifestyle...

you say your fan runs full speed?
which fan CPU or PSU?
if its your CPU fan you make have bumped the CPU fan
and its not making perfect contact with the CPU making the CPU get too hot making the fan work overtime and not letting the system post.
Sometime it doesnt even look like youve bumped it but cheap thermal paste dries out and just needs a little nudge and the dried paste cracks causing your CPU to get way too hot.
if this is tha case.
carefully take out the fan and cpu clean the both(clean dry cloth, you may have to scrap the paste of, use plastic not metal). apply the most expensive paste you can afford. I find the silver pastes work better than most stock cpu pastes.
look it up for more detailed info.

Oh boring! I was getting ready to say HAAAAA HAAAAAA HAAAAA!!!! (A situation seemingly that shitty, there is nothing any of us can do but laugh at you and be thankful it isn't us!).

Did you not getting any beeps when you attempted to turn your computer on? I always get beeps if the video card or RAM is acting screwy.

Just wait until the Cyberdyne corporation builds Skynet.
