I have a big chunky desktop for my music recording and my problem is it emits a ton of noise, far far far far more than my super quiet laptop. Its like trying to record whilst my girlfriend is drying her hair.. I've tried covering it with blankets, but noise still leaks through, and I'm worried about it overheating if I do that... Having my computer in one room and recording in another isnt an option, is their some way I can suppress the noise?

Not many options for you Im afraid. I would've suggested moving the computer case into another room but if it not an option then I would suggest installing newer, quieter fans.

ok I know nothing about doing this, so a little walkthrough would be helpful... I thought all cases were pretty much the same? Where can I get new fans (ebay?)/ does it ahve to be a specific type/are they easy to change?

If you're not that familiar with computers and have never changed a fan or power supply, then I'd suggest taking a trip to your local pc store and ask for their assistance and advice.

Hi there, Try this, it's acoustic insulation for your PC. Doesn't affect cooling etc, Computer Case Insulation - PC Soundproofing - Computer Sound Dampening - Quiet PC Hope this is helpful, regards Paul |

I built a cement board box around my pc and lined it with acoustic dampening ceiling tiles (cut to size). I replaced my fans with thermistor controlled variable speed fans. My pc dampening box is next to my wall and I ran 2 4" pvc pipes from the box through the wall. One at the upper left of the box and the other at the lower right. The difference in height allows for natural convection to occur and the pc doesn't overheat. The front door to the box is hinged so that I can access the cd/dvd drives. I have holes drilled out so that I can pass my I/O wires through. I tucked some insulation in the holes to lower any sound bleeding out. It works well and really lowered the sound level.
