Default Tricky Monitors

I have been recording for over a year now. I am just now starting to get some really clean recordings, with each track having clearity and presence in the mix. My problem is in the mixdown phase. I get everything sounding great on my admittedly inferior monitors and inferior room, and then when played on a car cd player the bass is way to loud. I have learned through experience to hide the bass when I am mixing down to overcome this problem. I really don't have the dollars to upgrade monitors or do a room treatment.

1.) Is there a way, using A3 to visually know when the mix falls in the right place?
2.) What is the Frequency Analysis function all about?

Thanks for your help in advance!

There is no reliable way to do this visually. I solved this by getting a subwoofer. Fostex has a decent one for $179.
See: link to musiciansfriend

Before I got a sub I used a bass amp. It worked but was cumbersome.

You could try the voxengo curve eq See: Voxengo - CurveEQ
This won't really solve it but is very educational and fun to use.

You need to be able to hear it. I have never found spectral analyzers useful for equing other than locating spiking frequencies or out of whack eq curves.

Shall I dare say this .....you have obviously learned the crappy monitors in a crappy room . But buying high quality studio monitors and putting them in a crappy room wont help .....a crappy room will turn any monitor to crap....best of sticking with what you have for monitoring ... buy a set of earphones . a lot better bet than crappy monitors in a crappy room . you of cause can make a better judgement based on using the two .......
