vista has alot of "side programs" that are used like the explorer and all that, you have to go into your start menu and disable everything that you dont need running. i had the option to get a free upgrade to 7 and im so happy with it. my computer boots faster and is alot more stable.

I can get Windows 7 for very cheap with a student discount so maybe i'll go ahead and do that. Are you running the 32-bit version?
