Noise reduction searches for noise and makes an attempt to cut it out even when an instrument is playing or a person is singing. I've never heard this sound good and I do not use it. Noise gating cuts off the sound when it's below X threshold but if the audio crosses the threshold everything gets through including the noise. This is generally acceptable because it a person is singing with any volume you really shouldn't notice the noise too much. The best option is neither of these. I go in and manually cut out all the silent parts. It only take a second and is faster than setting a gate that works well througout the song. The turbo best option is to not record with noise in the first place, but that is dependent on gear, gain structure, etc. Brandon |
