Its a good practice while saving a file to use the day's date within the file name you create. This is helpful for making sure you are editing the correct file. Just something that i do. And ive noticed that wherever you save your files(i use "my music") that the most recent will be last in that folder.

Edub, you make a suggestion that with some discipline I could put to good use in recording activities: Oddly I'm in the habit of doing what you say in some off-air aspects of my job. Duh. Thanks for the tip. A tip of the Hatlo hat.

Probably unlike many Audition users I am primarily interested in lightly processing shellac 78 rpm recordings for a weekly radio show. In seven or eight months of working with Audition's restoration features I have learned to use an exceedingly light touch. Suggestions from more experienced users are few and far between and would be welcome. Some colleagues of mine do a very impressive job with early editions of Audition but it's hard to figure how. Audition sure isn't Cedar!

I carry the converted recordings to the studio on CD. There we do the show live. Later I edit it in Peak for a nationally distributed version.

Right now I would be happy if I could SORT my files by recency. Possible? There are a lot of them piling up. And I should do something about that. I'm bad at housekeeping: Ask my Millie.

I'd also like to have explained why the system creates TWO files, one of which is mysteriously inaccessible. If anyone answers these simple questions, rest assured I have more. Thanks in advance.
Have you tried something simpler, and right at the time you save the files by simply coming up with your own code of filenaming? This way you wouldn't have click 'details' in the files list, and at an easy glance can see what's going on.

This method also helps you remember what is going on months after the fact, and helps anyone you collaborate with to easily recognize the files they need.

1) Save the file to a folder under an appropriate date.

--------- wav_090109_speech1.wav
--------- wav_090109_speech2.wav

At just a glance, you can see your folders by date and the files contained relating to your project.

2) Name the file incorporating the date.

ie. 090109_speech1.wav

I like to name my files as the file type sometimes, so that they group together by name by default. So the previous might be renamed;

ie. wav_090109_speech1.wav

I started doing this to separate different types;

jpg_banner_header.jpg
jpg_banner_footer.jpg
gif_filler.gif
gif_border.gif

This is very handy if you're dealing with 'raw' uncompressed files, versus possible 'mixed-down' or compressed files that may use the same name, but you can't see at a glance...

wmv_mysong.wmv
avi_mysong.avi
mp3_mysong.mp3

This way, I can keep track of all my projects, see each type of file that it is within a glance, keeping all related files in the same project folder, and voila! Organization.

Easy to back up too. Just copy the master folder onto a DVD and you're done.

Chris, thanks for this very worthwhile piece of advice. I happen to be doing a project now that I wish I had organized as you have suggested. Well going forward I think I see where that'll work well. I am just back from vacation and beg your pardon for not replying till now. Mike / Crosby Fan and recently I heard a Jack Fulton record that knocked my socks off

Hiya, willjrockstar.
Your post showed me many 87s. Years ago "86" used to mean, to toss something in the trash. Possibly "87" means "......nah, I'm here to be enlightened.

Here is a new question. Anybody?

Once a fellow has created a CD List, aka Play List, in Audition CD view, full of wonderfully constructed details about the cuts on his CD, how can he print it, or copy it, or both?

Coach?
