I am a newbie. So if this seems like a dumb question bare with me. This is a 2 part question. 1. Re: Audition 1.5 Live Vocals Monitoring There does not appear to be a way (just using computer and mic) to monitor a live vocal track (either with or without effects). Will adding a soundcard/audio interface that contains a preamp resolve this problem? 2. I live in Cincinnati, which is a fairly big city... Can you recommend musician/band forums where I can find bands looking for singers? Stu |

Your audio interface will allow you to monitor your current track being recorded, as well as playback levels of your pre-recorded ones. In order for you to playback and record, you must have a soundcard or audio interface that allows you to do so. Many soundcards shipped with pre-built computers don't have the ability. The use of effects on playback will be determined either by Audition itself (on the fly effects that eat up CPU), or your mixer board, which can add effects on the fly to the monitored track. Get used to recording/monitoring 'dry' (without effects) if you can. It feels a bit weird at first, but is very good at improving/monitoring your performance. I record my guitar dry, with no effects (other than getting the best sound at the amp) and also my vocals dry.

Chris: Thanks so much for solid advice. I was beginning to think that nobody had an answer. I am very grateful for your opinion on this. How do you tune your guitar, by ear? Or some other method? Stu |

Adobe Audition 1.5 doesn't have live input monitoring. Neither does 2.0 I believe. 3.0 is the version that has input monitoring. I use it all the time when recording things that are direct like guitar and running a plug in such as guitar rig on it so I can hear the final sound while recording it. If you don't have version 3.0, you can download a free trial of it from adobe's website. Go to www.adobe.com/go/tryaudition to get the free trial! Good luck!
