audition freezing help

SO heres the deal. Just recently my audition has been freezing up everytime i try and edit something. It seems the only thing it will let me do is mess with the EQ. anything that requires processing though like compressing and other stuff, it will just freeze up. I thought it was my cmputer performance, so i used a ram defragger and freed up alot of space. But that still didnt do the trick. I deleted just about every file I could and it says im not anywhere close to my maximum load, so the performance space is out of the question. I tried to reinstall it, and that didnt help either.

Any advice?

and this is the third time ive had something like this happen. Ive read alot of reviews and threads about sonar and i think im going to switch.

Does this only happen when you use audition?

yes, only when i try an edit a track in audition. I can still record and all that. but when i bring up the track in the edit view and try and change it, it freezes up.

There are many things that could cause your computer to lockup (freeze). It could be the usual suspects like viruses or spyware or it could be CPU overheating, faulty RAM, an over full hard drive, a damaged hard drive or even outdated OS componants or drivers.
In my experience its normally either the CPU overheating or faulty memory. You can test the memory by running Windows Memory Diagnostic.
If its not related to any of the above mentioned issues then it could be a problem with your particular copy of Audition. Pirated software traditionally has symptoms similar to what you're describing.

this actually was happening to me when i was using cool edit, it would always freeze while editing, it turned out to be my video card! i just bought a used video card 128mb and everything was all better again, u dont know how long i was fighting with it running like that and to think a 20 dollar card fixed my problem. now im ready to buy the big boy 1gb card
