If you're having a problem running multitracks, either increase your cpu, or use an older version.

New versions have more bells and whistles and use more RAM. Like I said before, the basic effects and filters haven't changed in years... and they were making great recordings 15 years ago, so what's the problem? Roll back to an older software..

That's very odd. 1.5 comes with backups so if it crashes, it restores each file when it starts up again... never had a problem with that.
1.5 has about the best multi track recording I have seen
but I can't use my VST stuff with 1.5.
I think 2.0-3.0 are truly great for mastering and working with the mixdown.

One thing that does bother me about recording with 2.0 and Cubase and Pro Tools is the mess they make with all of the files they create if you have to do a retake on a guitar or vocal part.
Millions of little files to deal with and eating hard drive space.
So 1.5 rules in that sense.

I'm not sure why Adobe went down that road. Just because the others are doing , it does not mean Adobe had to do it. Kinda like when our parents said if some other kid jumps off a cliff would we do the same ? LOL.

But in the end I still use 2.0 and for the most part I like it. I prefer the sound I seem to get from it and I also like the way it works with it's mixing console and how well the VST and effects can be used in the over all sound.

Yes, other programs don't ask you if you want to save every piece of audio in your session, they just assume correctly that you do. There's probably a preference I haven't found yet but when I try to save and close Audition it asks me save this file and that file and on and on...Ofcourse I want to save the files! I just don't feel like naming them all one by one. Most DAW's save them automatically as the name of the track.

Hell yeah!!!
In cubase when you hit save...boom, a few seconds and it's done! no matter how many or how large the tracks are.

I've never had a problem saving the same tracks just as fast. Sounds like a CPU or hardware problem if it's slower.

I have no complaints in that department. A few seconds and my files are saved.

So then, if you forgot to name your file something meaningful, like "Guitar Track Verse L", then you won't have a chance.

In Adobe Audition 1.5, at least, the recordings you have just made or 'takes' are automatically saved in temp files. It's only when you are happy with the tracks do you actually save them officially.

Adobe Audition 1.5 allows you the chance to rename your files before saving them to something meaningful, this is why you may not want a quick save. I can see a quick save being helpful if you're just jamming an experimental song or something.

I don't see how "Audition Blows" because of this. Perhaps you have a different workflow that would be suited by other programs. It doesn't mean there is anything wrong with it.

Why not?

Using plug-in effects
DirectX and VST plug-ins let you extend the already powerful effects at your disposal in Adobe Audition. Before you can start using plug-in effects, you must set them up in Adobe Audition. For DirectX effects, this process involves enabling the effects and then refreshing the effects list. For VST effects, you need to verify that Adobe Audition is scanning the directories where the effects are installed; then, you must refresh the effects list.

After that, using plug-in effects is as easy as using any other Adobe Audition effect. Just select an area to process, and choose the effect from the Effects > DirectX or Effects > VST menu (or from the Effects tab of the Organizer Window). - Adobe Audition 1.5 Help File

Yes, I can say that was probably the singlemost thing that turned me off on newer versions of Audition is that they save a million takes and clutter up the hard-drive with unidentified files.

Adobe Audition 1.5 doesn't do this, though it will make the files available in your list and in temporary files until you decide to save the ones you want to keep.. the rest disappear without having to clutter up.

If you want a new take in Audition, you simply record it to a new track, then you can splice the two takes together as you wish, then finalize it by saving it.

This feature is very handy, since you can simply record a new performance over an old one, without creating a new file.

*Note: I'm noticing many comments in this thread that is bashing Audition has less to do with the actual functionality of Audition and has more to do with the lack of knowledge of the user. Buck for buck, Audition (1.5) at least is a very affordable and powerful DAW, if you know how to use it.

You really should be using MediaSweeper this app has that whole thing sorted out even for multiple session files and not only does it also work for Reaper its donationware.
