Isn't that called a blivit? Oh yeah...it's called a tradison-fortistat!!!

It's interesting that you refer to the multitake-recording as clunky - I can't think why? Simple and works without a hitch and you have EVERY take!
So when the guitarist says 'how about we go back to take 67 - I think that was the best one' - its there.
Yes, Audition does feature the ability to record multiple takes; however, the interface for doing so is rather 'clunky,' and the end result is difficult to work with compared to multi-take features found within the likes of Sonar.

Look it really is each to his own and lets all be thankful that we have choices - unlike those poor fools locked into PT.
Well absolutely, all jokes aside . I was trying to sound fan-boyish too. Plus, I'm truly thankful to be thankful. It's all been good fun... ... ...even though I meant everything I said.

Is a 32-bit word equal to 256 bits? I thought a "word" was 8-bits.

most common usage is that 8bits is a byte (octet in govt speak)
two bytes is a half word
4 bytes = 32 bits = word
8 bytes = double word = 64 bits

and 4 bits is a nybble

maybe some floating point double words on supercomputer may hit 256 bits but i never got to program one of those yet

The Cray systems that I have programmed on have a 64 float and 128 bit double. They also have a 256 bit double complex, but I have never used it.

Duh!Oops. You're right. I meant 8 bits equal a byte not a word. Sheesh. I have a BSEE and minor in computer science. I'm getting old.

I work for the govt. We don't speak octect anymore. We speak COTS! We just buy software now; very little progamming (except for embedded weapons systems),but that's TMI.

Hmmm If you really worked for the govt then you would know not to use 'work' and 'govt' in the same sentence LOL

You're right. Look up the word "work" in the govt dictionary. It's either not listed or if it is it's a picture of a golf course (okay. Identity has been exposed... I'm retired USAF...best golf courses in the world).

Anyway, excellent reresher on nybbles, bits, bytes, words, etc.
I haven't heard "nybble" since I last played around with the 8085 (ok, now I exposed my age).

Smile Re: Audition blows

I have to disagree. This is just my opinion but I've been using Audition since the Cool Edit Pro days thru Audition 1.0 1.5 and just upgraded to v3.0. You may be missing the point but Audition is not a sequencer, it is a fine audio recording, mixing and editing programme. I use Cubase SX for midi and then print the result to audio. I have been doing that since the Atari days. Fine for midi but talk about 'clunky' for audio jobs - Audition is in another league entirely imho. I've also got Sonar installed, only because one of my writing partners uses it. I tried using it for midi but went back to Cubase which works better for me. I like the new v3 of Audition - especially the great routing options of tracks and busses. Also the fact that you can just double click on the file of your choice in the multitrack view and have very sophisticated file editing capabilities. Also the vst plugin support is very good now . Anyhoo each to his own - use whatever works best for u. After all thats what it's all about ain't it.

Well said Telfunk - besides the best one is usually the one that you use yourself :-

BTW if there was only one DAW (and heaven forbid it was PT) we couldn't have these discussions :-)

It is interesting to visit the forums of other daws - you soon find there are just as many users whinging or complaining about some aspect of the daw that they use - they all have their good points and their bad points - you just have to find the one with the most good points that suits you ;-)

I thought that's what the COTS were for. Nap time!

Sorry, just fooling.
