Lightbulb Audition 1.5 & Mackie Onyx 1640

Hello!

I am a newly hatched computer recorder, and I need one of those 'Easy' buttons from STAPLES. I am entering into this arena rather blindly. I have had little experience with the Mackie Onyx 1640, though I've created a few minor projects with Adobe Audition 1.5 that were basically solo efforts laying down track upon track.

Now we are trying to record 8 tracks in and lay down vocals and fills later. I think I have a latency issue with the computer burps on over dub.

Is there a rule of thumb to a starting latency setting that should be observed? I believe the computer is gig heavy in RAM & disc space and we are getting rid of as much garbage running in the background as possible, disabling anti-virus and such. I apologize in advance if you can set your watch by the times you get these latency questions. But also if anyone is running the same set up of Audition 1.5 & Mackie Onyx 1640 I'd be interested if you know of any pitfalls to avoid.

Thanks!

I'd start with a buffer of 128 samples and see where that gets you. If I go faster than that I get clicks and pops.

I think that's where we ended up. Finally got the Onyx and Audition to play nice with each other. I'll give Tracktion a try once I reinstall the updated drivers. Right now it just sits there and mocks me.
