Looks like you've caught on to the tricks of these software DAW manufacturers. Now many of them even dish out new releases twice yearly. Instead of fixing bugs in their old version, why not slap a new upgrade and chage $200 or more for the loyal client base? Cubase has been doing this very successfully for years

Anyway - I never even upgraded from CEP 2.0 as it still runs even under Win XP x64! I use it as a stereo track editor or for mastering, I never liked the way it did multitracking, it was just quirky. Its audio cleanup and restoration tools in it are also very good. Maybe the upgrade has gotten better but at this point I am mainly on Cubase and Acid at my home studio so it doesn't seem worth it to upgrade, plus Adobe was never on my list of great companies, especially when I had to wrangle with them back and forth over Adobe Acrobat and Photoshop when I worked as IT tech.

I used to use Audition for recording and mixing for like 5 years and I decided to try Nuendo and then Pro Tools and I'm much happier working with them! Audition just makes the process a lot longer than it should be! Nuendo (for me) is the quickest. Audition has great quality but right now I'm just using it to master and as a backup in case one of the other programs decide to fail on me in a session!

The only thing that keeps me from going to 3.0 from 1.5, is the blasted way that it saves every 'take' that I record. I'm used to deleting a bad take and destroying the source file at will straight from the Multitrack View.

In other words, if I don't want to keep the take, I can't get rid of it, unless I open the folder specifically and delete the file. By that time, I don't know which files are good and the others aren't. It's a really stupid system they put in.

I'm sure it's to facilitate "comps" of different takes, but it's a pain in the ass for those of us who want control.

It saves hard drive space as well as having a ton of crap takes. I don't know where to switch off this feature, so I uninstalled it and continue to use 1.5... :-(

I've been using Adobe Audition 3 for a while. It's a good audio post-production tool. I used to track and mix in this but after getting Sonar I do all my tracking and mixing in there and then I mixdown and do post-production on that wave file using the spectral display and what not. I don't like how you track in Adobe and I'm not a fan of the factory plugins, although I was for a while, until I got Sonar. I would say if nothing else at least try Audition 3 but if you can get something else... do so. Also Audition 3 is supposed to support midi and VST's... bull! I couldn't get EZDrummer to work in there or my keyboard by using Reason's ReWire. It was a real pain. So Sonar for me, Adobe for post-production. And ditto to the track thing said earlier. It saves all the tracks and takes up annoying amounts of space. If I ever use Adobe for recording it's mostly to just put one take ideas or acoustic tracks down. That's about it. It doesn't hog my pc too much though.

I agree. I still use 1.5 and see no reason to upgrade...especially that there is so much stuff that can be added to it to make it better.
