Default Adobe Audition 3 problems - please help!

Hi all,

I hope someone can help me, because I am completely lost...

I can't seem to simply record any audio using Adobe Audition 3 (AA3) and a plugged in microphone.
I've checked my Windows (Vista) configurations and the mic should work. It records input there.
But if I press record in AA3 nothing is recorded. Either in Edit view or Multitrack view.

I've checked the Audio Hardware Setup and tried every setup combination, installed the ASIO driver and tried that as well, but still no succes.

I've used Adobe Audition version 1 with great succes and it always worked properly, but somehow in AA3 it just won't work.

And I can't seem to produce any sound when using VST-plugins like BFD 2. When I start BFD 2 as a standalone programme, it works just fine, but when I open it in AA3 it doesn't anymore. And my MIDI keyboard isn't recognized by AA3 as well, so nothing happens when I strike a key.

Could anyone who knows about these things please help me though it? I've tried (or so I think) almost everything, searched for hours on the internet, but I just can't seem to get it to work.

All I want it to record audio through my microphone and play and record drums with my MIDI keyboard.

Thanks!

Let me ask you a couple of questions:
What's your PC configuration?
What audio card / interface are you using?

Maybe with some more info, we can figure this out.
I've been using AA3 since it came out, and have been using Cool Edit for a bunch of years. It can be quirky, but it's still a great program.

What everything are you using? Do you have a condeser mic? If so, you need Phantom power. Without it a condeser mic won't work (without batteries). Some condensers get voltage off of a USB and others use batteries. The most common Phantom power would be in a Mixer and or Interface.
Lets say you don't have a condenser.... If you are using the front mic, try the back. Make sure it is not muted in your sound software mixer... You need to go to properties and look at input or recording devices can be mixed. It may be muted or turned all the way down. Unmute everything until you find the right thing. If this doesn't work, try a different mic. If you are running through a board or mixer... You may have the signal routed incorrectly or the phantom power may need to be turned on... Tell us what you are using so we mau help.

If you have a registered version of AA3 and none of the other suggestions seem to help, give Adobe a call. They have been very helpful to me on a couple of issues.

Hi all,

I've managed to get the microphone working! A simple matter of removing and re-installing the soundcard driver apparently... simple as that eh?

But, unfortunately, my MIDI still won't work in AA3 if I use a VST plugin. Anybody maybe have any ideas on that? I've made a screenshot of my AA-settings: http://a.imagehost.org/0610/Audio_Hardware_Setup.jpg
