Default Strat Tone - 10 does not sound good? Well, try it on 7... The tone within the tone.

Hi All!

It is Saturday morn and I am congering up a Strat tone to use on this idea I came up with when I was sleeping last night. I am sharing this process because I struggled with this when I first started out. The problem was this, even if I had a good tone going, I had no one with experience to listen, thus losing confidence in the tone I had come up with.

Here are the players:

Guitar - EJ Strat w/ 11's

Amp - Blues Jr.

Speakers - 10 inch Alnico Blue (They are in the Vibrolux)

Mics - Studio Projects T3 (Cond), Audio Technica ATM25 (Dyn), Shure SM57 (Dyn), Shure Beta 52A (Dyn)

For all of you that are familiar with these mics, the Bass mics (ATM 25, Beta 52a) were in the dream, thus they made it to the shootout.

The mics that you hear on the clip are the Studio Projects T3 & the ATM 25 panned L & R into a M-Audio ProFire 2626 into Ableton Live on my MacBook Pro and that is it. No effects or compression. The reverb is coming from the amp.

I provided a clip of me going through the various Volume & Pickup settings looking for a tone that would work. I always try to capture what I am hearing in my head.

In the clip you will hear me start out noodling with a muddy fuzz tone that is quickly remedied by rolling back the volume on the guitar to 7. I do this same thing as I go through all the different pick up settings throughout the clip. Never judge a tone by it setting on 10!

I included pics as well, so you could get a visual feel for this setup.

If you would like anymore details please let me know and I will provide them.
