Most often, no. Some mics do that. Some mixers do that. The easiest way, though, is in the DAW. You can just click undo if you end up being wrong and don't like the new sound.

I'm STILL working on the phase chapter in my book. Phasing and comb filtering is something I'm having a problem talking about so I may need to make a big deal about it on the DVD.

This was cool of you to post, just last night I micd my snare with a 57 to attempt to learn, kinda like you did, but with no compression or bottom mic. I just hit it a couple of times, i've heard of bottom mics but was just too lazy to try it, yet... I don't own any symbals or kick drum pedal, I don't even play drums, but i recorded it that way, and the toms as well, and put the snare through kontakt and played it like midi, it was pretty fun!

Really its just about eq and compression to get it to pop how you want, then some overhead (which you cant change because you would be messing with the cymbals) and a plate usually.

You would be surprized at how much compression is usually put on snares.

If you want to hear my snare.. Tear it Apart!

Hi everyone

A question regarding the phasing of mics, easy if you are using a DAW but in a live situation were I'm using to 57's to mic the snare into my sound board what is the easiest way to reverse the phasing on the bottom mic?

Thanks
Bob

Reverse the polarity on the mic cable

Does your mixer not have a polarity flip / phase button? I don't think my Mackie 1604 does, but it's been so busy collecting dust that I can't remember.

I have a Mackie 1604 as well. I checked, it doesn't have polarity switch.

I think that I will just make a short adapter mic cable with it wired for reverse phase then I can just patch it in if needed.

If you are running it through a DAW (I think you hinted at that), then there are polarity plugins that you can throw as inserts on the channels. This is a little more complicated, but may be easier than doing some electronics and circuits work (for some).
