Default The Infamous Speaker Isolation Box A/B + Clips

Here is a test I finally completed after the building of my isolation box.

I used 6 pieces of 3/4 inch thick particleboard, liquid nails, silicon caulk, corner supports, screws and Roxul Safing 4.0 pcf insulation. The box owns! I got my Vendetta 120 watt Tube Head up to half volume at 3 a.m. and no one knew I was playing guitar.

Gear used:

Ibanez JS100 with dimebucker in the bridge
Monster rock cable
Ibanez TS7 tubescreamer
Monster rock cable
Rocktron Vendetta 120 watt tube head
Monster speaker cable
Avatar 1X12 speaker cabinet with hellatone 60L
Transformerless SM57
Generic Mic cable
Presonus inspire

The guitars were quadtracked, 100 percent left and right panned with minimal compression a little EQ, and a stereo widener.

The first 33 seconds of the clip was with the lid of the box closed, the second half with the lid open. Note that there is minimal difference in the sound.

The bass was an Agile Jazz bass rip off with Revalver MKIII.

Drums were Superior Drummer 2.0 with Steven Slate samples.

The second clip illustrates the level difference with the box lid open and closed outside the box. It is narrated.

If you have any questions on making a box like this, or about the box, or technique, feel free to ask.

-Greg

Nice work. I like the minimal footprint. Most home studios need something this small.

$160.00 if you wanna do an excellent job:

$60 for the particle board
$30 for the roxul
$70 for hinges, corner supports liquid nails, fabric and silicon caulk.

It looks and sounds good. It reminds me of a Coleman cooler. Ready to load and unload, while providing extra seating.
