Cool Competing with lolgreg

Every time I listen to one of lolgregs tunes I get a little pissed off. He's got some mad skills and sexified, chunkarific tones (spell check is really pissed off at those two).

I took a break from proof reading to continue my search for awesome tone (sorry Brandon but you write like a fourth grader).

I tried some of the techniques Greg spoke of on his last entry and this is what I came up with. Give me some feedback people, is he some kind of god or can us mere mortals achieve greatness too.

*edit...well, I went and listened to greg's breaking benjamin cover and it was obvious that I uber failed. I'm cutting way to much mids. Fuck you lolgreg.

haha, I often feel the same way.
apart from the bit about having 'killer home recording' in my hands
but yeah, that tone sounds gooood. Especially at first, I was thinking I'd be more than happy with this but thought to hold out before forming an opinion. And yes, in the last half - when the lead comes in, I kinda changed my mind. It's some awesome tone but is it workable in a mix?

The chugging rythm guitar sounds awesome but as soon as another aspect is introduced (another guitar part)... it got a bit messy. I do mean 'a bit'. it's still sweet and you've obviously just thrown it together for example's sake, but i'd be interested to see how it sounded with a full band.

and without that HORRIBLE hi-hat.

I went and added some mids but that changed the whole mix and I hate myself now... so I quit this ridiculous recording business.

Hey, weren't you doing some screamo vocals in the colab section? I'm still waiting to hear that.

Probably a wise decision.

After reading the first few paragraphs of KHR, my life was forever changed. It added 60 lbs to my bench press, and made me more attractive. This morning I noticed that my penis was much larger and no longer leaned to the left.

Thanx Brandon, I owe you one.

LOL I JUST SAW THIS THREAD.

I'm flattered. Listening to this mix, you've got this tone worked out a lot better for you than the one in the metal guitar wars contest. I would use this sucker as a template for that mix.

I suppose I've just practiced a lot when it comes to mixing, but I'm nowhere near as advanced as I WANT to be. My room is an issue in guitar recording. Its only a 12x15 and it's full of stuff, so I'm getting a lot of mud. I gotta get the cab out of this room and record some clips soon. I will admit I have quite the aresenal of gear to get the job done: The Tomato Farm Studio on MySpace Music - Free Streaming MP3s, Pictures & Music Videos

Regardless, keep it up guys. You'll all get to where you want to be if you keep on trying.
