Default Bad-Ass Metal Tone ain't just from Amps

Here's another clip (just repeats) of a guitar tone I achieved with the following gear.

Fender Tex-Mex strat with Tele Hotrails in bridge (ironic, eh?)

Boss GT-8

Presonus Inspire.

Guitar ($80.00 used at my local music store (go figure))
Monster Standard Patch Cable ($30.00)
GT-8 ($300.00)
Presonus Inspire ($200.00)

I'm sure you would get a similar tone with any decent guitar with a humbucker, I actually did a shootout for my friend yesterday with my Duncan JB equipped Dean vs my Hot Rails equipped Strat and he thought the Strat was the one with the full-size humbucker.

"T-Amp Lead" Patch and "5150 CTL-Solo" Patch, quad tracked and hard panned (with minor tweaking).

I would consider this a br00tal metal tone, comperable to the "Clayman" album by In Flames. I listened to Clayman and then this clip and it sounded pretty darned good if not better to me.

That's a nice mix man. Is quad track 1 each 100% and another one each at 70% or something? And all the same or are some octave?

Im at work and cant really listen to the clip but I will later. I agree completely that tones come from more than high priced gear.. Ive been able to get pretty good tones from a podxt. I have recorded 4 albums in my time with $10k-$30k productions and I think ive gotten better guitar tones at home. I think more tone comes from the player than it gets credit for. And in a mic'd setup there is so many technical details that affect the sound that even experts get mixed results. Also, I dont know about you all, but I was never all that comfy tracking in a room with my amp all loud, trying to hear the drums and or click through headphones (over my loud ass amp). This comfort (or lack of) affects the player and then effects the tone.. Its aweful nice to use a modeler and track in my office.. at a nice volume with a full mix of drums/bass or whatever and hear the results instantly through the monitors..
my 2c (looking forward to hearing this clip)

Both panned 100% L and R and the exact same riff. The layering of the tone was more important than the fact it was actually quad tracked.

Every one who plays through my Marshall AVT 50 makes the amp sound completely different, even on the same settings with the same guitar same mic positions and all. Its quite strange.

I've been tracking my amp in a closet with sound deadening blankets and the amp off the floor floating on Roxul. It's like the amp is in a different universe. I can never hear the sound of the amp, only whats coming out of the monitors/headphones. I realized you should NEVER account for bass response out of shitty monitors. My KRK RP5's sound good, but they woof out so easily it makes me nutty. Once I thought I was running too much bass on my Vendetta tube head and the track ended up sounding thin. I was PISSED. I used headphones to find out if the tone is woofy. No worries from there.
