Smile When you think about Christmas...

...what's the first tune coming to your mind????

Silent Night, of course!

This is my version. I played and recorded it yesterday, right for this contest.

Acoustic (Seagull) and electric (Strat) guitars. Trumpet and ocarina courtesy of
Roland GR30 guitar-synth, driven by the Strat, equipped with a GK-2A esaphonic pu.

Enjoy and buon Natale!

There is a lot of noise in the background.

The acoustic sounds very tinny, as though all the bass has been cut out from it. Some mistakes in the performance. You could have just ensured the acoustic sounded the best it could, and probably just got away with using only that. Unfortunately, the acoustic sound starts to aggravate, rather than soothe.

LOL, I was about to think, "this is kind of boring with just the guitar" and you add a trumpet and e-piano? to the mix, which spices it up a bit.

My rating is heavily influenced by the originality of the song posted, so you lose a bit of rating for doing a cover song.

I can tell you are experimenting a bit with instruments, some things work, other things don't.

Engineering
From an engineering standpoint you could get away with WAY more bottom in that acoustic. In fact, I'm not sure how you even got it that thin without EQ. I know the tone you are going for, but I get the feeling that you are trying too hard to get it. Keep it up, though.

I'd back off considerably from trying to use so much reverb and such a bright acoustic sound. I've been there done that myself. There is a point where you get that magical clarity you are looking for without trying too much. It just sort of happens.

Music
I really like it. I like these Christmas tunes where there is so much countermelody that you sometimes forget you are listening to the old Christmas song. I'm hearing that with this and I think it is a good thing.

In the time frame you had to work with, you did a very good job (with a few engineering issues aside).
