I was hoping for a more recent submission (old ones can get re-used over time). Part of a contest should be the challenge of coming up with an entirely new tune.
Other than that, the recording mix sounds fine to me. Good arrangement and songwriting. Very easy listening, in a John Denver-ish. Lyrics are good, and all performances re spot on. Pretty much a pro recording... Other than the lyrics, for some reason, it doesn't quite feel "Christmas" to me. The lyrics are the only clue - if this song were played at any other time of the year with other songs of it's genre, I probably wouldn't notice. It could be the choice of instruments, or lack of "Christmas" sounds in it, or just the straight ahead vocal stylings. I know many people would enjoy this song, to summarize, it just doesn't give me a feeling of Christmas...

Hi Chris,
Actually, this is my first post ever, of any song. Just breaking in to the wide world of online posting! LOL. It takes me about a month or two to write a song, and maybe a week or two (sometimes a lot longer) to record it, I'd have to start working on my Easter Song now! I'm a little slow..... Thanks for the feedback, and the listen. A friend asked me, before hearing it, what the "Xmas cues" would be (like sleigh bells or some such). And there are no cues. Except for the lyrics. [a little "OUCH" on John Denver lol, although I jokingly categorize my music as "wasp folk." The Kingston Trio got me into music, back in 1960 or so, when I was in sixth grade.] I'm just happy that the song didn't end up being cynical, my original direction. The media really drags the holiday to the mall and dumps it there, and that's more than a little distressing. I think the song transcends Christmas; it's more of a universal love theme, and the love for each child as the symbol of eternal hope through that love. All the best in the New Year! Thanks, again, for the listen. Cheers! Tom Quote:

Not a genre I normally gravitate to. The lyrics are Christmasy, but I'd probably add some gimmicktry of bells or something at times.
Overall, very good job. Brandon
