Default Christmas Pork - May offend Puerto Ricans like me...

So here's my song. Christmas Pork - During Christmas in Puerto Rico, we eat quite a lot. This song is about eating pork. Haha!

Anyway, here's the link to the song:

http://dannycruz.com/songs/christmas_pork.mp3

There's English and Spanish, so here's a key:
Cuajitos: Pig Ears
Lechon: Pig (usually cooked on a stake)
Monton: A lot (as in Lots of food)
Pasteles: Folk Puerto Rican food something
Hay que rico: Well, you know that!

Here's a bit of info on the recording:
I recorded it in Logic Pro 8 and wrote it with my wife specifically for this contest. The guitar tracks (only 2) were done with a Telecaster Special Editon with Humbuckers and recorded into a Line 6 Toneport UX2 with a Vox AC30 clean simulation. For the lead track, I also put an Ibanez TS-808 in the chain right before the Toneport. Somehow, the lead track sounds like trumpets in the mix! I love this pedal!

My wife did the bass, also with the Line 6 Toneport using a Warwick bass. Apart from the initial pads, the drums were the only part of the song created with MIDI keys and loops. I would've liked to record the drums live, but I'm short on mics still.

Keeping with short on mics topic, I had to record the vocals with an SM57 since it's the only decent mic I have at the moment. (Oh, and no pop-filter - too bad the song has so many P's) So given, my wife had been sick with the flu a few days back, and we were using the wrong mic, it didn't come out half bad. The preamp was the studio vocals settings in the Toneport.

Oh! And I almost forgot! There's an underlining track in there too. It's a Classical Spanish nylon-string acoustic guitar. It's a guitar that's almost 25 years old, (my mom's old guitar, that looks like new still!) That was also recorded with the 57.

Well, there you go. Enjoy! I was going to add a speed-up punk section as an outro, but after putting it together I didn't like it and decided to take it out.

Finally, I decided to attach some photos of the sesh! Done! Vote for us! -Danny

Sell your song to these guys!

Maybe its still the fact my monitors are really sub-par but the vocals needs there own space in the mix, not louder seems to conflict with the eq of the guitar...

We have a pot of pork tamales Guatemalan style cooking on the stove right now! In my house and the majority of my friends house you nailed it, it is all about pork... Yeah were not very kosher...

Fun song. I would have pulled that clean guitar down a bit. It fights for the vocal space a bit much. (I learned on the Thanksgiving Song contest that you have to mix holiday songs differently. The vocals should be way out in front when compared to conventional albums).

The song is fun and lively. I dig it!

By the way, the Line6 thingy did great for your clean tone. I've never said that before.

Thanks for the tips Brandon. I'll make sure to posts more songs in the near future. There should be an improvement. Hey, you should do a "TACKY VALENTINE'S DAY SONG" contest! Or a "GROUNDHOG DAY SONG" contest! -Hehe

If Excene Cervenka was Puerto Rican, I think this is what she'd do an X-mess song about. I like it!
