Default Carol of the Bells

Just a little something I'm working on... tips on the mix would be appreciated. I know it's a little late.. hope I did this right.

I really like this song. Carol of the Bells is one of my favorite Christmas songs. There's just so many different things you can do with it as far as arrangement wise, and I like yours. I am not sure I would have picked the same snare sound you did, but over all great job.

You would have got more rating and response if you had done something like this; Ding Fries Are Done!. You'll never listen to Carol Of The Bells properly after this...

This doesn't stand out to me very much because it's just a solo over a classic melody, in an attempt to 'metal' it up. Unfortunately the performance just does not get me excited at all.

I would have rather heard the original melody reproduced on electric guitar instead, then have you soloing over it - hopefully with more passion.

The intro was a bit long, but that may have been on purpose.

I think it's cool! Maybe the individual tones aren't perfect, but it has some balls!

Overall, the recording is a bit rigid feeling.

This was a good idea but it needs a llittle more compositional creativity. The melody is never taken over by the guitar, but instead it's blasted away. It would have been nice to have the bells hand off the melody and then take it back with a vengeance. Merry Christmas, Dave

Thanks for the input guys! Good or bad I appreciate it.

Dave, yeah, I thought that too. I wanted to change the ending - shorten the solo and end with the lead guitar screaming the bell part. But there are two reasons I didn't.... 1. because christmas is here and I didn't have time and 2. because Trans-Siberian Orchestra did exactly that in their version of this song (which btw I know is a BILLION times better than mine... I'm just one guy trying to learn how to record on a computer ). I know the bells get totally lost at the end and I don't know how to bring them out without burying the solo.... I like screaming solos... lol

And yes, that was exactly the point of this version... an attempt to metal up an old classic. A lot of people like metal... I like metal... metal versions of christmas songs are a little hard to come by. If you like it, cool.... if you don't, cool... everyone has their own taste.

Thanks again, and merry christmas to everyone
