I would say i dont use more than 10 tracks in a typical setup. All i record is vocals. I record hip/hop and rnb. The beats are already in mp3 format though. So basically all I record is vocal takes. I plan on opening up a commercial studio though. Thats why im buying a lot of top of the line gear or "industry standard gear" i should say.

My room is not treated at all. I use a reflexion filter for my microphone

Your beats are in MP3 format? Yikes.

ProTools HD will offer you no advantage whatsoever.

Yea, i just get free downloads from soundclick.com

im going to start buying the exclusive rights to the tracks so i can get the instrumental session and get a better overall mix going.

What does room treatment have to do with it though?

Unless you're recording in a finely tuned studio, built from the ground up, specifically for the purpose with extensive acoustic considerations, any difference in converters (AD/DA) between LE and HD hardware will be totally lost. I use both LE and HD (in different recording spaces). If they were used in the same space, with the same mics and preamps, I'm pretty certain I wouldn't be able to tell you which was used for a particular recording.

There may be other reasons for choosing HD over LE, but none apply to you.

Digidesign hardware goes out of date quickly. Don't buy more than you need right now.

If you can't sound good on LE, you won't sound good on HD.

Cool! Thanks for all your help! I posted another thread on here about a Sony C800G. Do you think that mic is an over kill? If not, what mic pre would it sound good with? I have a Manley Voxbox already. I was thinking about getting a Great River MEQ1 or a Neve 1073

I don't know where all your money comes from, but yes, an $9000 microphone is overkill for singing or rapping over MP3's.

What exactly do you hope to achieve from spending as much money as you possibly can?

Wow, the perfect customer.

Want a better sound?

Fix your room. A reflection filter does absolutely NOTHING for your mixes. And don't get FOAM.

HD in a home studio is totally overkill, might as well just burn your money.

The Mac Pro with your current setup would be a good upgrade. But since you aren't even working with multitrack beats, or making your own, there's no point in that either.

I also expect there to be a new and improved Pro Tools system coming. The current HD systems are not that powerful really.

Well my monies legit! Im a 26 y/o civilain contractor over in Iraq my friend. All of my gear is here also. Thats the only reason my room is not treated. I will only be here temporarily. I've been over here for 2 years now. I plan on doing 1 more year. Once i get back to the states my ultimate goal is to open a commercial studio and i want to have the best equipment possible!

Also I can get this mic at $6000! I thought thats a great deal! Now im actually thinking about buying a Manley Gold Reference and a Blue Kiwi instead of the Sony C800G. Do you think thats a good idea?

Well the reflexion filter does help keep my sound waves from bouncing off the wall and back into the mic well im tracking. I also plan on buying the exclusive rights from producers which will give me access to multitrack beats.

So you expect Digidesign to come out with a new system? Thats the same reason i think they have this killer trade in deal for upgrading from PT LE to PT HD. I just thought it would be steal. They want to give me $10,000 for my 0003 towards a HD3 Accel, 192 I/), AD expansion card. Is that not a good deal?
