Default Shake up at Digidesign..Logical Pro Tools?

Three of digidesigns key people just left them. At least one went to Apple. David Lebolt, senior vice-president and chief technology officer of Avid Technology, Inc and ex-general manager of Digidesign quit and went to work for Apple. I pulled this off of a pro tools blog.

"Dave Lebolt, Peter Gorges and Scott Church. What do these names mean to you? Let me tell you what they mean(t) to me.

Dave Lebolt - Kingpin, the big cheese and the face of Digidesign as a company.
Peter Gorges - The face of AIR, the team that - at least to me - was there to connect Digidesign and Pro Tools to a whole new generation of music producers, among other things.
Scott Church - Digidesigns only real arm stretching out to the end-user."

Wonder what that means for Logic and Pro tools? Could be interesting.

Substitute "Apple" for "Logic". Why they bought it from emagic, anyway. Have a look at the standing of Final Cut in the pro video area compared to Avid, these days. Besides, who really wants to drop $4k each on TDM cards? If Digi can't offer innovation, Pro Tools won't be the "you-know-what" for long.

This is true. When I was in college, all of us audio guys were using Pro Tools (and DP, but more for Film Scoring and MIDI work) while the video guys were using Final Cut. They all said you could do just as much with that as you can with any AVID rig, so why spend the money on a proprietary system that you have to haul around a dongle for?

(I should really learn to heed my own advice; see my signature, LOL)

I thought it impolite to ask how you were going to stay on that horse.

It certainly will be interesting to see whether LeBolt does end up at Apple. There was a rumour some time ago that Microsoft were thinking of buying up Digi, and I can see Apple wanting to make sure that doesn't go successfully. They are afterall trying to dominate the world.

Oh boy! That reminds me of that part in Days of Thunder where Randy Quaid gets all pissed off and says "We looked like a monkey fucking a football out there!".
