Default Save file as MP3, WAV?

I'm using Pro Tools LE 8 with the MBox 2 Mini.

I'm wondering if I can actually save my vocal recordings as an MP3 or WAV file using ProTools?

If I can't, do I have to purchase the:

1. MP3 Option (iLok Version for Pro Tools 7.3+)

http://store.digidesign.com/us/index...mber=mp3onilok

OR

2. MP3 Option (Auth Code Version for Pro Tools 5.0.1+)

http://store.digidesign.com/us/index...=8115-57044-00

Which should I pick? 1 or 2?

Is Pro Tools 7.0 the same term as Pro Tools LE 7.0? Just wondering.

All your help is very much appreciated!

You can bounce to a wav file with stock Pro Tools. In order to bounce to mp3, you need to purchase the mp3 option you linked to. Personally, I would bounce to wav, and then convert it to mp3 with dbpoweramp or winamp or *shudder* iTunes or something. It's an extra step, but it's free.

Wav is lossless. You want your good mixes saved in wav.

Convert to mp3 to listen on mobile digital devices and to upload (i.e., soundclick, myspace, etc).

You lose sonic quality with mp3 due to compression (tradeoff between file size and fidelity).

'Tis true. It's a shame that lossless codecs like FLAC haven't gotten more popular than they have, but consumers can't hear the difference through their shitty converters and shitty earbuds. They care more about quantity then quality because mp3s are "good enough."

That being said, it's still important to listen to your mix in mp3 format over through those shitty earbuds that ipods come with, because statistically speaking, more people listen to music through those than anything else.

Very true. I keep the wav for CD production (if needed). And of course, if you're sending a mix out for mastering; don't send mp3.

I also keep various fidelity mp3s along with the song. 320kpbs for digital downloads (i.e., Amazon mp3) and as low as 128kpbs for our old time favorite MySpace.

I thought I'd mention the Myspace is now 192

I went on a 1 month self educational tour across the internet a while back because I was sooo fucked off with myspace and they actually updated it a while ago... Yeah it still has its own shitty compressor/mp3 converter but, mp3s are now at 192 so always best to upload mp3s to myspace as a 192kbs MP3.

Facebook, allows 320kbs and sonically, mp3s sound leagues ahead of myspace

Anyway....

Definitely agree. I don't want to get back into the mp3 fidelity wars, but try to convince me there's a noticeable sonic difference between 128 and 192 from MySpace on earbuds.

I've never used ProTools so reading what you've just read as definitely confirmed why I don't really and have never wanted to.

ProTools, not even including a way of converting a file into MP3? That is fucked up...

Talk about money grabbing... (This is not mean't to disrespect anyone who does use ProTools, but fuck me, In this day an agae, MP3 (as dogshit as it actually is) is a very, if not the most common format for audio (Itunes etc etc).

Absolutely ridiculous.. Just out of interest...How much extra do you have to pay for ProTools to be able to convert files into MP3s?

haha, well I thought of that when I drunk out of my fucking face converting one of my band songs over and over again using Lame and all sorts of fucking nonsense haha

Very, highly boring subject MP3 conversion is, as you would probably agree, and after a while I just sit, pouring another drink thinking things like...

"Its soooo fucking cool isn't it!! Lets buy a HD TV and a set of HD Speakers and what am I watching, oh, fucking DIVx Files, and listening to shit MP3s...haha"... Cheers for HD Revolution hahaha (Sorry I'm ranting now...

Thats when I came up with that quote.....

After working on a track for months and getting it sounding as good as I possibly can and then hearing it back on myspace thinking "This is SHIT" haha

Anyway, Rant over (For now)

Love and 1-kbs MP3 kissy wissys haha..
