i play bass guitar in a band. in the studio, our tracks are recorded in protools HD. i want to take tracks to my home and mix myself. our song is mostly under 32 tracks. and i'm considering buying a mbox mini. question is; is it possible to open protools HD sessions in my protool LE? thanks. |

Yes you can open HD sessions in LE, just a couple of things to be aware of though. The Pro Tools software on your LE will need to be the same version or newer to open HD sessions. You can save a copy of your HD sessions as an early version of protools that will open in 5.3 and the HD system should recognise the old 5.3LE sessions you have, and then you will be able to re-save as a newer version. Also you will need to check the PC/MAC compatibility option if transferring between MAC and PC formats, this however is not an issue with later versions of protools. Some routing settings and plugins maybe lost in the transfer unless you have those plugins at home. Also make sure you save the session in a sample rate that is compatible with the Digidesign hardware you are using. Cheers, Mike |

^^He pretty much covered it. You really only need to account for differences in software version and hardware capabilities, not the difference between LE and HD. Keep in mind though that you may need to free up voices or tracks in order to play the song in LE, depending on how complex your HD session was. Also if there were any plug-ins in the HD session, you will likely need to redo them all since you do cannot have TDM plugins and likely dont have some of the plugins that were used in the HD session. When you open the session, you will get a dialog noting anything that has changed in the session due to compatibility issues.

hello I have protools HD sessions recorded in a studio, drums, and I'm trying to open them in Protools LE 7.0. not working; it says: 'Could not complete your request because it was determined the session version is too new while translating document info' the HD version is 1 uear old i think, my protools LE is 7.0 and 2.5 years old. I'm using a quite recent digi 002 rack unit, the one on which you can already work on 96kHz. it's very urgent, recording sessions... thanks Sebastian Omerson |

Hey Ferguson, we solved the problem: to switch from a recent HD to LE you have to at least have a 7.1 Protools. Our producer had one on his laptop, we saved as 7.1 and then we could open in 7.0 too. thanks for the answer kind regards Sebastian |
