I use ProTools, but have not read this book you speak of. I learned the basics from a friend who is quite familiar with ProTools. He learned years ago by taking a night course at Community College. I found that once I knew the basics, after a bit if trial and error, a lot of things fell into place. Now, mind you I am far from a guru but I can accomplish most of the tasks I wish t do with ease. I started out with Cubase originally, then switched to PT's. I found the latter less cumbersome and easier to learn.

1 on 1 training (from someone that uses it daily) is the best way to learn PT.

I recommend this QuickStart Guide written by Chris Bryant
Pro Tools QuickStart Guide | Show Me Pro Tools

Read it cover to cover, then use PT every day.

If you prefer videos I have a list of the best and worst Pro Tools tutorial videos here:

Good and I'm looking forward to not having to answer anything already covered in the book
