Default Pro tools 7 won't respond

I just brought a second hand version of pro tools 7 and a m box 2. When I connect the Mbox to my windows xp computer and insert the software cd. Windows doesn't respond. Then when I start the installer with the mbox disconnected, it works perfectly untill it says, connect the m box to update drivers. I do so and it says that i have to wait several minutes while it does this, but it's as though the installer has stopped responding, I could leave it going for three hours and it would have the same screen. It works all good on my laptop and I'm pretty sure my desktop meets the specs required. Does anybody know whats going on? I'm losing my mind.

Cheers
