pro tools 7.3, won't finish installation? why?

Ok, so the other day I bought and mbox 2, really nice condition off a friend. It comes with all original materials and pro tools installation software. I know that these types of things run better on macintosh but I went through the installation process on my pc. It is a intel duo core 3.03 ghz, with 2 gb ram, 500 gb hd, big graphics card, and realtek sound off a biostar board. I know that this computer is more than capable of running this, so I don't feel like it is the computers fault.

I was told that 73 only works on xp pro, so i reformatted to the ntfs and did a clean install of that. After reinstalling mother board drivers, and re-flashing the bios to the most current edition, I went painstakingly step by step through the installation instructions that came with the mbox 2. After making the suggested alterations to the system memory allocation and power adjustment settings, I plugged in the m box and it popped up with the found new hardware box just like it should have. At this point, the manual instructs you to ignore this box, but keep it open, and insert and begin he installation process with the pro tools 7.3 disc.

At this point the install starts up and the wizard is working aok. It goes through the full install process, goes from installing drivers (which all work, and lights pop up on the mbox physically) to installing bomb factory plug ins and digi plug ins, to the end of the line where it tells me that set up is complete and it is configuring my installation.

This is the point which has been causing me to freak out. It just sits there on the last bar, saying that it is configuring. The optical drive stops spinning, and the hour glass disappears. Task manager says that activity has dropped to 500 K, and the CPU usage limit is hardly anything. I have left this configuration going for as much as two hours. Nothing happens.

Upon quitting the process, I find that all folders and icons are present, and the computer believes that it has everything installed, but there is no pro tools 7.3 icon in the install and delete programs folder in the control panel, and none of the short cut or exe icons will do anything.

This mother fucker will not make it past the last bar of the install, any theories.

p.s. i have tried it on my friends pc with my copy of xp pro, (works), I have tried it on my friends mac book pro (works)

Only thing I can think of is that there might be some windows pop up behind the pro tools installer, warning you that a driver is not digitally signed. I remember this happened with some piece of software I was installing, but I can't for the life of me remember what.

It doesn't sound likely that this is what's happening, but it's worth checking, I guess.

can you go to the folder where it was installed
and click on the program to make it run?

if so make your own icon

None of the available icons work. They all do start a process in the task manager which takes about 30, 000 K, which is called Protools.exe.
