Default Pop at start and stop

I've got a digidesign mbox 2 and I'm having some big issues with it. Ok so I've connected it to both logic pro and pro tools and it seems to work in both DAWs fine except for one thing! Whenever I press record there is a small pop noise that is audible. And it also does this when I stop the recording. ALSO, I forgot to mention, it also does it everytime I press play. It's so damn annoying. I'm not sure if the pop will carry through when I render the track but it's still annoying to hear the noise every time I press play. Has anyone else had this issue with any digidesign products. And I was not using any plugins by the way, just the dry vocal track. I have a feeling it might have something to do with phantom power but i don't know for sure. It kinda sounds like when you first turn on phantom power. I don't think it's my computer either cause I've used an alesis io 14 that seems to work just fine. I've got a 2.4 GHz macbook with 4 gigs of ram (intel) and plenty of disk space.

Sometimes you get that if your digital equipment isn't syncing together correctly.

Do you have anything connected to your digital in's on your mbox2? or are you using the mbox alone? Check your word clock prefs to see if it's set to internal clock. And if you do have something connected to the digital ins you should be clocking internal through the spdif outs. or you can get a BNC cable and clock it through that. I cant remember which mbox 2's have or dont have the BNC connector.

Another possibility could be your OS. One of my friends updated his computer to the newest OS (it was a mac, like 10.5.5) and he got that popping sound too. Im not sure what he did to remedy it. Maybe a complete re-instal.

Hope you figure it out.
Let me know what it was if you do, i'm curious.

Sounds entirely software (DAW) related. Try increasing the buffer size one notch. Also, be sure you are recording to a second hard disk, not the system disk.

Err... on more careful reading: it does it in both Logic and PT? If so, it does sound like a hardware problem. Contact Digi, threaten to send it in for warranty. They'll either tell you what's wrong or give you another.

It is an old digidesign mbox 2. I don't know if they sell newer more compatible ones now. It was probably bought around 2005.
