I just want to record some vocals and guitar tracks. and maybe add some drum effects or a midi synthesizer. I currently have an IBM desktop with windows xp proffesional w/ service pack 2. pentium 4 2.66 ghz, and 256 mb ram. I can upgrade to 1 gig of ram for $70.00 IF I do that, will I be ok? I have pro tools le 7.3 and m-box mini. Thanks for any help!! p.s. this cpu is about3-4 yrs old i think.
When I plug my mbox in now, my computer pops up a blue screen and says windows has stopped operating to protect it from blah blah blah, then I have to manually shut down and reboot. everything is fine as long as i dont plug the mbox in. I have not installed pro tools yet, it wont let me get that far. Could this all be caused by my low amount of ram that i currently have? |

Here is a link to the requirements:
Digidesign | Support | Pro Tools LE 7.3 - Windows XP Desktop Systems You need at least 768 Meg of RAM according to those requirements. Make sure you install everything in EXACTLY the order they tell you to in the Getting Started guide. There are things you need to configure in the PC before running PT the first time. Really, read the manual and then install or you will regret it. Before you spend the $ on upgrading your RAM, you may want to go through the requirements and make sure your desktop meets the requirements and definitely make sure it is not on their "not recommended" list. bilco |
