Default LE rig vs MP rig

Basically I'm debating between

MBox 2 Pro (acedmic)

or

Delta 44
DMP3
Pro Tools MPowered

I will be recording mainly electric guitar either via mic or DI. Then maybe a little acoustic and vocals.

A Pro Tools M-powered rig is just as good as LE or HD. Its lighter on the pockets too.

My question is more geared to the interface quality. AD/DA conversion, and preamps specifically.

I'd say they're pretty much on a par in terms of AD/DA conversion and pre-amp quality.

They market X $300 product to imply that it sounds vastly better than Y $300 product. In all honesty, the difference between X/Y $300 product (with preamps, converters, and audio interface) isnt' much different from $2,000 pres, $2,000 converters, and $2,000 audio interface.

In the home recording chain where there are HUGE fish to fry, I consider all gear at the same price level to be the same in terms of quality. I hear many mp3s posted from members using all kinds of gear and there is never a standout piece of gear that always sounds better than other gear. Even samples, which should have an obvious difference in quality often get mangled by the beginner.

However, the big difference is features. Make sure you get the right features for you.

You should be driving yourself crazy of what bass traps to buy and how to get yoru studio monitoring more accurate.

Any M-Audio interface will work for you. USB , Firewire or PCIe cards. If you are worried about noisy preamps just use use a high pass filter to cut out the the unwanted baggage. But if you need lots of i/o s, a control surface and interface then buy the Project Mix or an LE rig with the DIGI 003.

A high pass filter would remove all the low end. (Only the high end passes through the filter).

With that said, the only instrument you can remotely get away with EQing out the noise is bass and that's even pushing it.
