i want to bury my mbox 2 pro...help?

Hello there. I'm new and know very little about computers but enjoy recording and have some previous knowledge of recording with pro tools...

I have an mbox 2 pro connected via firewire to a duel core sony vaio laptop. I record onto an external hardrive. I have an intermittent problem that is doing my head in...

Basically the mbox is not being recognized by my computer. The green power light just keeps blinking. "unable to locate digidesign hardware". Sometimes, if i keep turning the mbox on and off then it will finally work, but recently not even this old chestnut is doing the trick. bum.

It has been working in the past but now the problem happens every time i want to record. This makes me angry and I'm close to smashing everything up!

I've just replaced my firewire cable but no change.

I assume that I need to download something but have no idea where to start.

Any help would be great.

Dont know anythimg about pro tools.....But problems like this can be down to needing to update the software....Go to the main website and download the latest drivers for your product. Install them and see if that fixes it

It may be that the firewire interface Sony selected for that specific laptop is not compatible with digi hardware. If so, that's a major pain... depending on how long ago you got the mbox, you may still be able to return it in exchange for something that works with your machine (or vice versa if the machine is more new than the mbox). This may not be the issue I don't really know. Ask here:
