Default Having trouble adjusting the volume of midi data recorded on instrument tracks in Pro

Hello all,

I've searched the treads but have not found anything yet that helps me with this issue. I'm recording a demo in Pro Tools. I'm using the MBox2 as my interface and recording the drum tracks with a set of Roland TD-9. The TD-9 brain only has stereo audio outputs rather than direct outs. Since I only have an MBox2 anyway, I have to record just a stereo mix. I've also got the midi hooked up to Pro Tools. So this is where I am at... I have recorded the stereo track (2 mono tracks) from the V drums and also the midi data. I recorded the midi data to an instrument track because the mix channel strips have the midi controls at the top. I've split the initial midi data track to individual tracks per pitch. At this point all is well. What I would like to do and thought was possible is to adjust the volume of the individual midi pitches (each drum) via the midi controls in the cahnnel strip. Just in case I need to raise or lower a drum in the mix. I can see the meters on each drum strip moving when each drum is played so I know each chanel is only getting the associated drum. I am able to mute and solo each channel via the midi controls, but when I change the voume, nothing happens. Obviously the TD-9 brain is connected and I have the audio routed correctly to hear the midi playback. I just can't seem to figure out how to adjust the volume of each individual channel. I know a lot of you will say use Cubase or cakewalk, but right now all I have is ProTools LE and the MBox2. Any thoughts ir ideas are greatly appreciated. Also, do I need to set up anything specific to the TD-9 in ProTools? They did not have the TF-9 listed in the midi setup so I just selected the TD-10. Sorry about the long post.
