Default Favorite EQ Plug in for PT 8?

Was wondering if anyone had any advice on EQ plug ins for Pro Tools. Would it be safe to assume EQIII is totally adequate, as long as I know what I am doing(I do not yet)? Are there more intuitive EQ's out there that help streamline or make EQing easier?

I have to admit, I really need to learn to properly EQ, so I thought I would start with a good one. Thanks for any advice. I am trying to learn how to place sounds in my tracks for a cleaner mix.

EQIII is very good. It is a very simple but effective eq. Great on system resources too.

If you want something with a bit more colour then you'll need to look elsewhere, however it works perfectly fine for the usual job, especially if you're new to EQ'ing.

I always use EQIII. Not in 8, but in 6.9 and 7.4. EQIII is the most intuitive one I've found.

I know my friend has many waves plugins but he always uses the stock ones on his recordings and he is amazing. Those are all i use now and if you work with them you can get any sound you want. I used the API, SSL and v series plugins at my dads house they are much easier to tweak if you ask me plus they come with a ton of presets to start out with and tweek from if you are just starting out. I would have to say the API 560 and the SSL channel are my favorite plugins for eq. I plan on getting either the api bundle or the ssl bundle at some point.

There was a shootout around here of all kinds of EQ plugins. I have little trouble hearing differences in preamps and converters generally and I couldn't give a damn less about the tiny differences in the various EQ plugins.

It's infinitely more important to develop your skill in using the EQ gadget.

EQIII is really good. Its very vanilla which makes it perfect for clinical EQ but if you want more flavour, the Joe Meequalizer is fantastic. Everything just sounds better through it. Very musical but you wont be notching out any problem frequencies with it! I like the T-Racks Classic EQ too

Hope that helps a bit

Bah! I'm a small bit jealous Rocker Guy! I wish I had UAD stuff... :-) An EQ's an EQ I guess but, as I'm sure you know yourself, its quite cool to plug one in and get a touch of, yes, I'll say again, flavour. Doesnt really mater tho, cos if u have a semi-half decent mic and spend 10 mins placing it u wont need so much EQ. Not always possible or appropriate maybe

Mic placement and a great mic is key but when you need that lil cut or boost of certain freq's a nice musical eq comes in handy.www.sterlingsoundstudios.com

I really like the EQIII in pt8, it's incredibly accurate so if you've got a rough idea what you're doing you can generally reach a decent sound in no time at all. My favorite is probably the Waves SSL G Channel EQ, it tends to colour the sound just a little bit & in my opinion it sounds really nice.
